task
The existing roof surface was prepared, including de-gritting, to receive an overlay roofing system. Imperfections were made good for a smooth and reliable foundation.
approach
The project presented challenges we had to navigate carefully:
– Persistent weather issues impacted progress. We re-organised the schedule to accommodate weather-related disruptions and ensure continuous advancement.
– As the tower was occupied during refurbishment, the roof was sealed at all times to prevent water ingress.
solution
The roof was thoroughly primed. A 100mm flat board fixed with insulation adhesive was installed. We installed SA primer to fully adhere our preparation layer to the boards. We insulted upstands with 30mm insulation and mechanically fixed to the existing upstand. These were primed, and received a preparation layer and 3 coats of liquid waterproofing. A basecoat of Alumasc Caltech was applied with a reinforcement mat. Using a 2-layer system, the top coat was applied to ensure long-lasting protection and durability for the roof. Finally, an anti-slip walkway in red quartz was installed in relevant areas, offering increased grip underfoot, especially in wet or hazardous conditions.
