The roof had not been maintained, coating was peeling and cut edge corrosion was occurring. To undertake the project involved working over live production of extremely sensitive aircraft landing equipment. The client needed a team with a range of specialist refurbishment skills including metal sheet coating, cladding, scaffolding and rooflights. Requirements included the highest levels of safety management systems and minimal disruption to their production.
A system of additional protection was designed by Central, utilising the clients’ overhead cranes to board out and act as a protective deck, avoiding any potential contamination affecting the manufacturing facility. Lastly, a roof mounted safety line system was incorporated into the project, to aid future safe maintenance for the client.
We totally transformed the roof. Over cladding the existing leaking asbestos cement roofing with a new metal roof, as well as increasing the thermal performance to meet current regulations. Work also included strengthening to the internal steelwork and the removal of multiple redundant vents and fan units. Existing gutters were lined with a new bespoke membrane coated metal gutter liner. Safran are now benefitting from a thermally insulated, fully guaranteed and easily maintainable roof.
